Beyond Shakespeare is about looking forward, using the experience and knowledge gained to date to help us imagine how the forces that drove Shakespeare might manifest themselves, both now and in the future. We do this by initially turning our backs on the world of Shakespeare (essential if we are to achieve our objective):
New Writing-Society World
These are plays that focus on aspects of life in the 21st Century:
The Nativity 2015
A series of fortnightly collaborative workshops in Birmingham, exploring issues in the 21st Century and creating multi-disciplinary new works.
focusing our attention on the here and now; explore what is going on in the world around us, developing new skills afforded by the opportunities of living in the 21st Century.
working with others to create new works that can be shared by other people.
New Writing-The Personal World
Writing that focuses on the one area that Shakespeare hardly ever rarely wrote directly about - the private world of the interior. Whilst the interior world does, indirectly, come through his words, the settings are nearly always about, and therefore largely determined by, the exterior world of society at large. Beyond Shakespeare is about completely reversing that Point of View, we feel this is vital if the spiritual forces that drove Shakespeare are allowed to keep developing themselves.
These are the new works, written over the last 12 years, that reflect this change of focus:
One Christmas Eve
Orpheus in Blue
The Other Side
